PUNK BENEFIT PLANNED FOR AMPUTEE DRUMMER

Japanese punk band MIKA BOMB are performing a benefit gig at London's Garage venue next week (15MAY06) in aid of their drummer ERGI AHMED, who recently had his legs amputated.

Ahmed was rushed to hospital in December (05) with blood poisoning, which left the musician in a coma for a week, before his legs were removed.

Although he is now in "good spirits", Ahmed can no longer work as a drummer.

A statement released by the band says, "Ergi is now in good spirits, racing about in a wheelchair and beginning training with prosthetic legs, but is unable to work to support his wife and kids.

"He'd prefer you to imagine he was in a motorbike accident and landed in a crocodile-infested swamp."
