DOCTOR WHO LEADS BAFTA TV WINNERS

Cult TV show DOCTOR WHO swept the board and took home three prestigious accolades at this year's (06) BAFTA Television Awards - Britain's answer to the Emmys.

David Tennant as the tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as his assistant Rose Tyler in Doctor Who

The show, which currently stars British actor DAVID TENNANT as the timelord, took home Best Drama Series, Best Writing and the Pioneer Audience Award for Best Programme of 2005.

Meanwhile, former X-FILES star GILLIAN ANDERSON lost out on the Best Actress award to BLEAK HOUSE co-star ANNA MAXWELL MARTIN, but celebrated when the BBC's CHARLES DICKENS TV adaptation was awarded Best Drama Serial.

SHARON OSBOURNE and SIMON COWELL's talent show THE X FACTOR swept away competition from FRIDAY NIGHT WITH JONATHAN ROSS to win Best Entertainment Programme.

The British version of hit TV show THE APPRENTICE saw SIR ALAN SUGAR take home the Best Feature Award, while celebrity chef JAMIE OLIVER was honoured for his factual series JAMIE'S SCHOOL DINNERS, which saw him relentlessly campaign for nutritious children's food.

Other winners included London soap EASTENDERS, and MATT LUCAS and DAVID WALLIAMS' hit comedy sketch show LITTLE BRITAIN.

Dr Who star BILLIE PIPER accepted awards for the show saying, "I'm having the time of my life. Dr Who is the most amazing show to work on."

Best Comedy Performance: CHRIS LANGHAM, THE THICK OF IT

Best Single Drama: THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR

Best Drama Series: DOCTOR WHO

Best Serial Drama: BLEAK HOUSE

Best Continuing Drama: EASTENDERS

Best Factual Series: JAMIE'S SCHOOL DINNERS

HUW WHELDON Award For Best Specialist Factual: HOLOCAUST - A MUSICAL MEMORIAL FROM AUSCHWITZ

Flaherty Award For Best Single Documentary: MAKE ME NORMAL

Best Features: THE APPRENTICE

Best Sport: THE ASHES: ENGLAND V AUSTRALIA

Best News Coverage: BBC1's TEN O'CLOCK NEWS, JULY 7 2005 LONDON BOMBS

Best Current Affairs: DISPATCHES: BESLAN

Best Interactivity: COAST

LEW GRADE Award for Best Entertainment: THE X FACTOR

Best Situation Comedy: THE THINK OF IT
