London-based Alsamari, who plays an Al-Qaeda terrorist in UNITED 93, transferred $63,750 (GBP37,500) from bookmaker William Hill into his account to have his mother, sister and brother smuggled out of Iraq.

He says, "I am ashamed by what I did. Of course I am sorry and I feel a lot of regret. But I was desperate and it was urgent

"I felt it was the lesser evil than having my family murdered."

The film portrays the events on board one of the hijacked jets which were flown into the World Trade Centre in 2001.
