PRINCESS MICHAEL SPARKS AFFAIR RUMOURS

British royal PRINCESS MICHAEL of Kent has plunged the UK monarchy into fresh controversy after being photographed holding hands with a Russian millionaire during a secret holiday in Venice, Italy.

The 61-year-old, who is married to QUEEN ELIZABETH II's cousin PRINCE MICHAEL of Kent, booked into the $3,850-a-night (GBP2,200-a-night) five-star Cipriani Hotel for four days at the beginning of April (06) with 40-year-old furniture tycoon MIKHAIL KRAVCHENKO.

According to reports, the Princess booked two separate apartments with a connecting door.

Photographs show the pair holding hands and kissing each other on the cheek while taking a romantic gondola ride through the city.

Last night (22APR06) royal spokesperson SIMON ASTAIRE claimed the pair's relationship is purely platonic.

He says, "I have spoken to the Princess and she assures me that this gentleman is a friend.

"Her husband is already aware of this friendship."
