LIONEL RICHIE has helped to commemorate the 20th anniversary of a US raid on Libya by performing at a concert in the North African country on Saturday (15APR06).
The HELLO hitmaker sang in a shell-cratered building in front of over 1,000 Libyan officials and diplomats, drawing shouts of "thank you" and "we love you" from the audience.
He responded, "Libya I love you, I'll be back."
The concert was named Hanna Peace Day in honour of one of several children killed in the 1986 strike.
US forces bombed Tripoli and Benghazi in the early hours of 15 April, in retaliation to alleged Libyan complicity in the attack on a disco in Berlin, Germany, which killed three people a month earlier.
A US serviceman was among those who died.
