PROOF SHOOTING SUSPECT TURNS HIMSELF OVER TO POLICE

A suspect in the murder of rapper PROOF turned himself in to Detroit, Michigan police yesterday (12APR06) afternoon.

Bouncer MARIO ETHERIDGE was working at the city's CCC nightclub when the shooting took place. Police say some witnesses put Etheridge's name forward.

The 28-year-old is now in custody and the authorities have filed a warrant for his arrest.

Police have also revealed that the evidence they have collected so far suggests Proof - real name DESHAUN HOLTON - started the gun battle in which he was fatally shot in the head.

He was one of two victims shot during the incident. The other man, KEITH BENDER, was also hit in the head and remains in a critical condition in hospital.
