MARILYN MONROE's 1954 marriage certificate is to be auctioned off in New York.
The actress wed baseball great JOE DiMAGGIO in San Francisco, California and now fans are being offered the ultimate memorabilia item from the couple's romance.
Written in green ink and signed by Norma Jean Dougherty - Monroe's name from her first marriage - and the sports legend, the certificate is expected to fetch between $10,000 (GBP5,700) and $15,000 (GBP5,700) when it goes under the hammer on 19 May (06).
The marriage only lasted 274 days but insiders claim the pair were planning to remarry before Monroe's mysterious death in 1962.
A touching telegram Monroe sent to DiMaggio in 1961, suggesting that she wanted to give their romance another try, is also among the items at the auction.
But the most expensive items are likely to be Monroe's old passport and a tattered love letter from Monroe that DiMaggio kept in his wallet until his death - both are expected to fetch upwards of $30,000 (GBP17,100).
The letter, signed Mrs JP DiMaggio, concludes with Monroe promising to be "your wife for life".
