LATEST: KEITH URBAN and AMERICAN IDOL star CARRIE UNDERWOOD were the big winners at last night's (10APR06) Country Music Television (CMT) Awards.
New Zealand-born singer Urban was presented with the Video Of The Year gong at the Nashville, Tennessee, ceremony for his song BETTER LIFE - which he performed backed by a choir from the Gulf Coast and scenes of last year's (05) Hurricane Katrina.
He told the audience, "We just wanted to present a better tone for Better Life, and I had been down to New Orleans and was struck by a combination of things - how much has been done and how little has been done.
"We just wanted to bring a little more awareness back to the cause down there."
Reality TV show star Underwood, who was recently crowned the fastest-selling female country artist, won the Breakthrough Video and Best Female Video categories for her hit song JESUS, TAKE THE WHEEL.
KENNY CHESNEY won the Best Male Video gong for his song WHO YOU'D BE TODAY, while JENNIFER NETTLES scooped the Best Collaborative Video award for the track WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T GO HOME.
