UNDERWOOD AND CURRINGTON CLAIM FIRST CMT AWARDS

AMERICAN IDOL star CARRIE UNDERWOOD got last night's (10APR06) CMT Music Awards off to a great start by picking up the Breakthrough Video Of The Year for JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL at the start of the show.

TRACE ADKINS kicked the night off with a raunchy performance of his HONKY TONK BADONKADONK, backed by a team of sexy dancers, but Underwood was the first award recipient at the Nashville, Tennessee party.

The nervous blonde said, "This is my very first acceptance speech, so I made a list."

Another early winner was BILLY CURRINGTON, who claimed the Hottest Video Of The Year prize for his hit MUST BE DOIN' SOMETHIN' RIGHT.
