CRUISE'S DEATH BED MEETING WITH BAD DAD

TOM CRUISE has spoken out for the first time about how he made peace with his estranged father on his deathbed, as he prepares for the birth of his first biological child.

The movie star, who has two adopted children, will become a dad to fiancee KATIE HOLMES' baby when she gives birth in the coming days - and he's using the occasion to talk about his own father who subjected him to a terrible childhood.

In the upcoming issue of American Sunday supplement Parade, Cruise reveals his father was "a bully and a coward", adding, "He was the person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you."

But Cruise admits he did see his father one last time, after 10 years of estrangement.

He adds, "He was in the hospital dying of cancer, and he would only meet me on the basis that I didn't ask him anything about the past.

"When I saw him in pain, I thought, 'What a lonely life.' He was in his late 40s. It was sad."
