STEVENS SNAGS FIRST NEW PANTHEON MUSIC PRIZE

SUFJAN STEVENS has become the first-ever recipient of the New Pantheon Music Prize in Los Angeles.

The singer/songwriter receives $5,000 (GBP2,900) and a trophy.

SIR ELTON JOHN and JOHN LEGEND were among those who voted for Stevens over nominees including ARCADE FIRE and KINGS OF LEON.

The prize aims to continue the mission of the now-defunct Shortlist Prize in recognising noteworthy albums that have sold less than 500,000 copies in the US.
