TENNANT RESENTS GAY STEREOTYPING
PET SHOP BOYS frontman NEIL TENNANT is sick of being labelled a stereotypical gay man - because gays are not all 'camp' and effeminate.
The WEST END GIRLS hitmaker, who came out as a homosexual in an interview with gay magazine Attitude in 1996, insists pre-conceived ideas about gays were the main reason for delaying his revelation.
He says, "The reason I didn't come out beforehand was that I thought we'd get stereotyped, and yes, that does happen.
"I'm not a very camp individual at all. There are lots of straight people who are camper than me.
"But there you are. People like their gay entertainers to be outrageous and outspoken.
"It's a desexualised stereotype and it's feminine. It's not threatening."
