ARCTIC MONKEYS CAUSE STORM AT SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST

British rock sensations ARCTIC MONKEYS caused mayhem at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas on Friday night (17MAR06) after thousands of desperate fans were unable to access their crowded gig.

The teen band, whose album WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM THAT'S WHAT I'M NOT became the fastest-selling debut in UK chart history earlier this year (06), are set to storm America's charts following their current US tour - which sold out in minutes.

The band's appearance at the trendy music festival was so manically anticipated that it was deliberately excluded from the festival's official line-up until a few days ago.

The venue, with a capacity of 1,200 people, was packed solid and nearly 4,000 fans were left to admire the set from the outside.

A festival source says, "It was manic. They played 1,200 capacity La Zona Rosa, but at least half the 10,000 people at the festival turned up hoping to get in.

"Official wristbands were swapping hands for up to $1,000, even after they'd started playing, but most had to listen through the doors."
