French movie legend BRIGITTE BARDOT has appealed to US President GEORGE W BUSH on behalf of a Texan prisoner - even offering to pay for the death row inmate's retrial.
The crusading actress has written to the American leader pleading for FARLEY C MARCHETT's death sentence to be scrutinised again, after he sent her a letter appealing for help with his case.
Although she didn't identify his crime, Bardot insisted it could be seen as self-defence, and has urged his execution - due in the coming months - to be postponed until the evidence is studied again.
Bardot writes, "Mister President, I implore you to use the wondrous power that is in your hands so that this man can benefit from a trial review."
She added that she was "deeply affected" by the case.
