FILM-MAKER PAYS TRIBUTE TO DEAD PARTNER AT INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS

Tragedy marred the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, California yesterday (04MAR06) when film-maker IAN OLDS took to the stage to pay tribute to his partner GARRETT SCOTT, 37, who died of a heart attack two days before the event.

The pair were honoured with the Truer Than Fiction award for their documentary about the Iraq war, OCCUPATION: DREAMLAND - but the prize, and Olds' acceptance speech, was tinged with sadness.

He explained, "I didn't want to come but I came for him, to honour him and the work we did together... I loved him like a brother, I miss him already."
