BLUNT BECOMES THE FIRST BRIT ON TOP IN NINE YEARS

Singer/songwriter JAMES BLUNT has become the first Brit in nine years to reach the top of the US singles chart after crawling to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

His YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL hit has made a steady climb up the charts and now the former army man is the first British artist to reach the summit since SIR ELTON JOHN shot to number one in 1997 with his DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES tribute CANDLE IN THE WIND.

Blunt is hitting all the right high notes in America this week - his album BACK TO BEDLAM reached a new high at number five yesterday (01MAR06).
