Actor PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN thought he was giving an awful performance while filming CAPOTE and feared that the movie was going to be a disaster.

The star, who is nominated for an Oscar for his performance as the legendary writer, says it took ages for the film to eventually come together.

He explains, "I didn't think it was going well in the beginning.

"In the middle (of filming) I thought, 'Well, it's getting better. Maybe we'll have to just do the best we can.'

"Near the end, I think we all started to get more confident that maybe something could be made out of this.

"Then when everything started coming together we were like, 'OK, we're going to do everything in our power to make this work.'"
