Three-time Wimbledon tennis champion BORIS BECKER won 1.2 million euros ($1.4 million/GBP820,000) in damages from a German newspaper on Tuesday (21FEB06).
The 38-year-old took legal action when conservative publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) published his photograph next to a negative slogan in its launch Sunday edition in 2001.
The Munich court threw out an attempt by FAZ's lawyer to argue Becker had taken no legal action when the newspaper had previously published his picture next to that of German Green Party leader JOSCHKA FISCHER.
