OPERACION TRIUNFO IMPORTED TO US

Spanish TV sensation, OPERACION TRIUNFO, is set to hit US shores.

The reality show, a combination of AMERICAN IDOL and BIG BROTHER, has been a huge hit in Spain since launching in 2001, and has spawned successful spin-offs in the UK (FAME ACADEMY), France (STAR ACADEMY) and several other countries.

The show will follow the training of aspiring pop stars, living and studying in a fully-working school of music that also doubles as the contestants' home.

The as-yet-untitled US version will be shown on ABC TV and will highlight the struggles of aspiring stars as they try to transform themselves from amateur performers to superstars.

Performances will still be a key component of the show, but behind-the-scenes dramas will also feature prominently.

The show is expected to take place over 10 weeks with 12 contestants competing for prize money and a recording contract.
