OPRAH WINFREY, WHOOPI GOLDBERG and RUSH HOUR star CHRIS TUCKER are getting the chance to trace their roots in Africa as part of a new US documentary series.
Harvard University scholar HENRY LOUIS GATES JR helps the stars uncover hidden truths about their ancestors in new TV special AFRICAN AMERICAN LIVES.
Media mogul Winfrey was moved to tears during the taping of her segment on the show when Gates Jr handed her a rediscovered deed of a land transaction between a white Mississippi landowner and one of her ancestors, a freed slave. For Tucker's part on the show, the professor used modern DNA research to trace his ancestral roots to Africa, leading the funnyman to visit the village his family hails from.
