Veteran crooner ROD STEWART was keen for doctors to use new son ALASTAIR WALLACE's blood for stem cell research, because he wants a new knee so he can play soccer again.
The MAGGIE MAY singer, 60, jokes that the pioneering stem cell technique, which could enable three-week-old Alastair to have his own blood should he ever require a transfusion, would be useful in reviving his sports skills.
He says, "I was rather hoping that they could put it (Alastair's umbilical cord blood) into my knee to grow a new cartilage so I can continue playing football."
Stewart's son was born to fiancee PENNY LANCASTER last month (NOV05).
