Bashir has been a journalist for many years and just got his biggest break working for Nightline.
Martin Bashir is well known as the interviewer of Michael Jackson, when Jackson was going to trial of being accused of child abuse. He is a wide known journalist. ABC has asked Martin to take Ted Koppel's place on Nightline. Ted Koppel, broadcaster on ABC news for over twenty-five years, will be leaving the night of his 25th Anniversary in November. Bashir has been with ABC already for a year working on various things like documentaries. He and co-anchor Cynthia McFadden will work together in NYC, while Terry Moran will be in Washington covering stories at the White House. Bashir became well known after his interview with Princess Diana back in the '90's and his explosive documentaries of Michael Jackson's life back in 2003. When the documentary was broadcast the viewers were outraged with Michael's relationship with children and not startled that he went to court for charges of child abuse. Bashir was a wise choice for ABC News because he has the accreditations of a top anchorman.
