WEITZ BRUSHES OFF NEW MOON CRITICS

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON director CHRIS WEITZ has chosen to ignore what film critics say about his latest movie - because he's more concerned with the opinions of the series' notoriously hard-to-please fans.

Weitz was brought in to replace Catherine Hardwicke for the Twilight sequel after she was sidelined by studio executives, but his take on author Stephenie Meyer's fantasy franchise was still met with mixed reviews.

But, now that he's managed to thrill Meyer's devotees, Weitz is happy - and he insists he doesn't need the opinions of film critics.

He tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "Nothing surprises me in terms of reviews... If one could imagine their biggest fears, it would be complete rejection of the movie by the fans.

"What I've realised over the last week is I won't necessarily get good reviews for this movie. Having swallowed that, this was made for the fans, and if you don't get it, then you don't get it."

The Twilight sequel made a staggering $140.7 million (£87.9 million) in its opening weekend (20-22Nov09) in America alone to become the third biggest debut in American box office history.

PRODUCERS APPEAL STREEP MOVIE'S R RATING

The producers of MERYL STREEP's new movie IT'S COMPLICATED, which brings Oscars co-hosts STEVE MARTIN and ALEC BALDWIN together as love rivals, are to appeal an `R' rating classification in America.

Officials at the MPAA's Classification and Rating Administration have ruled film fans under the age of 17 won't be able to see the movie without a consenting adult because of "some drug content and sexuality".

But producers feel the picture has been dealt with too harshly and the R could effect any Oscar hopes - and they're seeking a softer rating by appeal.

The film is due for release on 10 December (09).

KARDASHIAN SOURCE DISMISSES PORN STAR ROMANCE

Porn queen LISA ANN has been branded a liar by socialite ROB KARDASHIAN's publicist after claiming she's romancing the 22 year old.

But a source close to Kardashian insists the porn star's claims aren't true.

The insider tells UsMagazine.com, "They did meet at a gym, but that's it... She wants a bit of fame right now. Rob is laughing it off."

He says, "They used to have a thing called the NME Poll Winners Party, where the owner of the NME would get us, the Stones, all the top acts, to come and perform for nothing! This was a couple of years into The Beatles' career.

"I remember being on the steps of Wembley Town Hall (in London), literally getting ill with nerves, and thinking, 'I've got to give this business up, this is no good'. It was quite nerve-wracking.

"I'm not so bad now. I know I've got a really good band, which helps."

COMIC-CON CO-FOUNDER KRUEGER DIES

KEN KRUEGER, one of the brains behind the world's biggest comic book convention, Comic-Con International, has died - just two weeks after co-founder SHELDON DORF passed away.

Krueger founded the San Diego, California-based annual comic book festival with Dorf in 1970. He died of a heart attack on Saturday (21Nov09).

Dorf died earlier this month (03Nov09) from kidney failure. He was 76.

This year's (09) event was attended by more than 125,000 people and included appearances from director Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Twilight stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

DANES 'TERRIFIED' BY EFRON'S FAME

CLAIRE DANES was terrified pairing up with hunky actor ZAC EFRON for upcoming film ME AND ORSON WELLES - because she was constantly forced to fend off mobs of lusty teen fans.
